The Splashnology site looks cool and I would use it but I believe the modified version in the review looks better. Of course things can always get better and all but I believe the site is pretty successful and useful both for publishers and readers.

This review is really excellent! I completely agree with ProBlogDesign. I really like the end design that they suggested and I hope Spashnology takes the feedback and applies it!

I really like the article, and would like to see more of this. This really shows how a different train of thought (or a second pair of eyes) can simplify and adjust a design so it works better.

Here’s what I don’t get. What’s that Submit button doing there at all? And what’s that little “Positive” tag below the navigation? There’s also a lot going on below the post titles. I’m not sure I like how the byline and the +/-rating system is organized. At the very least, like items should be grouped together. And the previous, next, and page options section at the bottom could be cleaner. Also, I sort of feel like the “next” option shouldn’t be on the first page since there isn’t a page past the first page. There are numerous conditional PHP scripts to remedy that.

Also, the sub-navigation could possibly use some more whitespace, or maybe spacers (I’m talking |, not other random stuff). That’s just my preference though.

On a whole though, the design is sleek and neat — it’s just slightly-deficient in its UI.

It’s not the site that links from my user name here… I don’t work on that at all as you can see from the looks of it .
