Thanks for the tip! I think, managed VPS is a good choice when purchasing a VPS, either expensive or cheap vps. No worries about the setup and I dont want to managed my own system, waste of time. :)

I came to know about VPS hosting from your blog. earlier i knew only about Shared and Dedicated hosts. VPS seems best solution for small to mid sized businesses.

amazed by thorough explanation you covered in short tutorial.

keep posting on such beautiful topics
thank you very much

Peter and Steve, you are right. I guess this is where people mostly try to avoid. There are certainly a huge opportunity to make in that space.

If you read my first article in the series, combining this idea, I think is a powerful want to create value added service. In fact, that's probably where I want to go in the future with my business.

Thanks for leaving comments.

I've had a VPS account with WiredTree for several months now. When I was looking for a provider one of the biggest factors for me was that I wanted a managed service. I'd rather pay a little more and not have to worry about all of the technical details. So far I've been very happy with their service and I've had to take care of very little on my own.

Wow - I've never read such a thorough post on VPS hosting. I'm a coder, and I fancy myself fairly technically proficient - I use ssh more than most (I assume), I know my way around an htaccess file, and I can generally make php.ini do what I want it to.

After all that, I'm terrified of handling my own server. I've actually got one site hosted on a VPS, and I'm afraid to do anything. I had the server set up at one point so that every few days, backups would fill the drive space, and the site would go down. It took hours and hours to figure out the problem, and even then, the thrill of success was... well, lets face it - I had been successful in getting the website to just barely run normally.

For me, the moral of the story is this: if you're not ready to spend the time learning how to run a server, don't pretend like you can do it anyway - especially not with a client's site.
