It would appear that there are a lot of conservative websites using Wordpress.
Matt Dunn (2 comments)24 September 09
The things you can do with Wordpress is endless. Their growth in the past few years shows that. I barely even do regular websites anymore.
Dan (4 comments)24 September 09
It would be interesting to find out why they chose WP, and what they think of it now.
Arpit Jacob (1 comments)24 September 09
Thank you for featuring my site. I am currently in the process of redesigning my site as you can see the current design is 2 years old, the new design should be up in a week time. Would love some feedback.

“WordPress as a CMS” bwahahaharh.
Kishan Bagaria (4 comments)25 September 09
There is a typo in this article. It should be “5. Texas Tech Today” instead of “5. Texas Tech Tody”.
OtherWebGuy (1 comments)25 September 09
It should also be Timberline, not Tumberline.

Yeah, and isn’t open source, like, socialism?

I have been toying with the idea of using wordpress as a CMS. As a matter-of-fact, I am submitting a proposal to do client’s website in Wordpress today. Any pro’s and con’s on this? I have only heard good things. Joomla/Drupal seem to have too great of a learning curve in the admin for most of my Clients.
Adam Haney (1 comments)25 September 09
We switched over to doing all of our client’s sites in wordpress a few months ago. It’s been great, because we went from an inhouse CMS (that frankly didn’t work very well) to having the support of the wordpress community. It saves us time in development and the customer ends up with a better product, you can’t beat that.

Great collection of featured sites using WP.

I’ve already decided that CMS sites are what clients want and Wordpress appears to have so many advantages as a CMS.
Lots of videos out there are showing how to add static pages and premium theme sites are beginning to offer page based themes.
I think that I’ve come to Wordpress at an exciting time… perhaps the straight blog site is in decline and the page based site, with or without a blog is taking over.
And Wordpress is great for SEO… what more could you ask for.
My only reservation? Will clients cope with the dashboard?
I don’t know the answer to that one.
Sy (1 comments)26 September 09
This is my concern too. I suppose it’s like anything else with clients and computers – some will be fine, some will struggle.
Juan Batista (1 comments)26 September 09
Just started using wordpress myself. Don’t know a whole lot about it, but you have given me some really good ideas.

While you certainly can use Wordpress as a CMS, why would you do this? Why would wordpress be better than a traditional CMS?

I saw ford at the top, and that says it all really.

I just started using WP for my new site earlier this year after a web designer suggested doing so. Great decision. Very simple to use and maintain. Just be sure to have the right host.

WordPress is brilliant for almost any kind of website/blog combination. I customise WordPress sites for all my website client’s now and wouldn’t use anything else. It is also very easy for most clients to add to and manage once I hand over the finished design.
buybatteryca (14 comments)28 September 09
more and more people are using WP.

Great list. I’m always looking for new ideas for non-blog Wordpress sites.

Awesome list. LOved the way WP is used. The one i liked the most was for R&W.

We just started using WordPress in lieu of all other forms of development. No more hand-coding HTML from scratch for Joomla or ExpressionEngine, no way. The SEO options of some themes are worth the price of admission right there. Google “Hybrid Theme” and get cracking on it. Amazing!
Keith Davis (51 comments)23 December 09
Hi Doug
I’ve just started looking at Hybrid.
I’ve signed up for the free membership but it looks as though I will have to take on the paid membership to get the really good stuff.
Do you have any other comments on Hybrid?

I was actually surprised to find out that these all run on wordpress. Its interesting cause I have just been arguing on this subject with my husband ( who is in the IT business), my point of view was that many websites today are using wordpress as well as many sites are also blogs. thank you for this post.
Jordan Foutz (4 comments)16 November 09
WP is awesome. Scalable, flexible, and plugins really help you keep development time/costs @ a minimum. A lot of my little side project sites in the future will be built using Word Press.
Вуле (1 comments)28 November 09
Awesome collection as tribute to WP.
Keith Davis (51 comments)28 November 09
So true!
I’m still getting used to the power of Wordpress.
Perhaps the downside is all those security issues, but as a CMS with thousands of fantastic themes, Wordpress every time.

Anyone know how WP compares with Joomla/Drupal when it comes to company websites? Just curious if more big corporations use WP than any other CMS
Michael Martin (1285 comments)17 December 09
It depends on the individual company and what sort of a website they’re after. For a lot of people though, it might come down more to the developer’s personal preference for which system to work with. I’d imagine that a lot of projects could be done equally well with WordPress or Drupal, so the developer’s preference would be the decider.

This really shows how popular wordpress has become as a content management system, due to it’s intuitive implementation and brilliant versatility. Wordpress will continue to grow and grow in popularity.
