     one of them actually has a Search Field built directly into the “404″… I think it’s pretty useful.

    These 404 pages are great, they can make you smile in the face of the 404 error, even though your annoyed by missing page! My fav’s are Twingly, Twurn and jhuskisson.

    Just what I needed to cheer me up for the weekend – the Simpsons are obviously very popular.
    If it made me smile, it might make your visitor smile rather than be annoyed because of a broken link… and that can only be a good thing.

    I wonder why the DeviantART page is on that list. It doesn’t seem particularly creative to me, just their mascot Fella which appears on just about every page anyway.

    (Ok, some of the other ones weren’t so creative either, but some were brillaint.)

    The designs are all very nice. And many of the messages the designers added were hilarious. It’s the first time I felt happy seeing a 404 error. :)
    The Lost, Death, and ninja-themed ones are the best though.

    There are boring 404′s and then there are stuffs like these! How easy it is to use a nicely designed 404 page like these to quickly turn your frustration into a surprised chuckle.

    You know what I like best about innovative 404′s? It’s the thought behind them, that even something as insignificant as a 404 Error Page can be made into something nice and pretty.

    I think that custom 404 pages can greatly aid usability and accessibility when used well. Instead of seeing a mysterious error page with a scary ‘error 404′ message, you users can see what looks like just another page of your site, telling them that something has gone wrong, and lending them a hand in getting back on track with a link to the homepage and/or a searchbar. It’s well worth the effort.

    I have never thought about 404 pages. But after seeing this stunning-funny collection I have decided to make one for my blog. When a person lands in our blog on a 404 page and if they see a funny picture like this they will surely get attracted to our blog. All the 404 pages you have shown are really nice. Superb post.

    There’s nothing worse than a default 404 errors, but in a way dont spend too much time on them as well. Spend more time preventing them :)

     What I do on my site though is when a page is removed, any address with our domain and a site after it that doesn’t lead to a page anymore {or ever did} just forwards you to the main front page of the site. I guess it’s slightly less clear, but at least it takes you to a page where you can start again. Especially if they are clicking in to an old page from off a search engine that doesn’t exist anymore.

     Some really good examples here which have really made me smile. A lot of thought has been put into these 404 pages and they are something that I don’t really consider as important but these more creative and imaginative ideas for a more functional page are really great.

     The first one is technically incorrect as well, but it’ll take you to the right thing, regardless.
