Great collection of 404 pages, both the Homer Simpson ones are my personal favourite.

I think the 4chan 404′s would have to be up there. And since there’s a different one every time you 404, it’s even more exciting than the forum itself!

I wonder why the DeviantART page is on that list. It doesn’t seem particularly creative to me, just their mascot Fella which appears on just about every page anyway.

I have always wanted to try and be more creative with the 404 error pages.

Its the perfect place for a company to show a light hearted personality.

It amazes me how many sites – professional websites lack custom 404 pages! They should be a must have for ALL websites.

The designs are all very nice. And many of the messages the designers added were hilarious. It’s the first time I felt happy seeing a 404 error. :)
The Lost, Death, and ninja-themed ones are the best though.

Silly me, as a web novice, I didn’t even know you could customize that page. Great, more work to do…..

I think that custom 404 pages can greatly aid usability and accessibility when used well. Instead of seeing a mysterious error page with a scary ‘error 404′ message, you users can see what looks like just another page of your site, telling them that something has gone wrong, and lending them a hand in getting back on track with a link to the homepage and/or a searchbar. It’s well worth the effort.

Homer Simpson is the best on all picture, hahaha…

There’s nothing worse than a default 404 errors, but in a way dont spend too much time on them as well. Spend more time preventing them :)

I usually do go through the spam filter, so even the simple fact you have a Gravatar will help any future comments of yours stand out for me

have never thought about 404 pages. But after seeing this stunning-funny collection I have decided to make one for my blog. When a person lands in our blog on a 404 page and if they see a funny picture like this they will surely get attracted to our blog. All the 404 pages you have shown are really nice. Superb post.

What I do on my site though is when a page is removed, any address with our domain and a site after it that doesn’t lead to a page anymore {or ever did} just forwards you to the main front page of the site. I guess it’s slightly less clear, but at least it takes you to a page where you can start again. Especially if they are clicking in to an old page from off a search engine that doesn’t exist anymore.

At the web design company that I work for, we believe that a well designed and original 404 page will keep visitors entertained and engaged even if they happen to find a broken link.
