The footer is traditionally an underused part of a web design. It's the place for copyright notices and credit links.

But you can do so much more with a blog footer. Twitter updates, popular posts, recent comments, and Flickr photo streams are just a few common ideas. Have a look at the photos below and see if you can pick up a few ideas!

  1. Excellent collection of footers!!, they are very useful to adapt our themes

  2. Great collection, I definitely tried to put extra care into creating my footer but some of these just plain blow me out of the water. It's an important detail in blog design that was neglected for so long it is good to see people making use of this area.

  3. I like Powazek best. It seems to pack a lot of information into the limited virtual real estate at the bottom of the page.

I'm curious as to how people actually interact with this. Is it really effective in stopping the readers? Or do they care to scroll down to the bottom?.

  4. Nice list...
If you look at my blog footer, I've borrowed the 3 columns from John Chow and the "tiny-text" thing from Matt... I put a ton of information about me in the footer, in a simple way... Does that look good ?

  5. Nice list. Good to see Banjax in there.

  6. Beautiful list indeed. Those are really wonderful and very creative footer designs. I need to make new footer this design for one of my blogs so i found very interesting ideas to use for that. Thank you for sharing.

  7. Nice collection. I like Crazy N funny best. It´s very cool...

  8. Martin,
Glad you're finding the collection useful. :)

    Jeremy,
Same here. I try to do something great with it, but the creativity of some people with their footers still amazes me!

    Hendry,
I can't talk much about other people's footers, but here on Pro Blog Design at least, I have 2 sets of links in my footer, and they both get a fair few clicks a day. It's not a massive amount by any means, but it's still a good few people. If I was just using a copyright notice, it would be none, so i think its worthwhile to make a decent footer.

    Shrihari,
I like the tiny-text effect most. The columns look good, but it might look better if they were all equal length? :)

    Lee, WDB, Boris,
Glad yous found some footers yous liked! :)

  9. hey, thanks for including my footer in your list! :)
shame it might be changing again soon though...

  10. Michael,
Aren't the first two columns equal length ? Are you talking about the 3rd and 4th column ?

    pdincubus,
Your footer looks great.. You are going to changing just the footer or the entire design ?

  11. shrihari, thanks for the comments :)

It will be a little like the style that is there now. I love heading font and definitely the victorian wallpaper style thing in the background - so it will be a variation of what is there now. I might do away with the two column content but not sure yet. I think the footers on my site are pretty important, probably as important as the top menu, so what ever I do, I want to make sure they're full of useful stuff and given enough screen space.

  12. A lot of the footers in your collection have a whimsical style, which can be a nice way to round out a web layout. It's hard not to enjoy looking at them.

  13. Some good designs there, very good for inspiration.

I'm about to re-design my blog and was thinking of inclusing some links in the footer, as it was an area I've previously overlooked this area in designs before.

    Good collection!

  14. excellent collection, This point is important because you can improve new design in order to better the webs design. I´m a student but i like the web design i think that this kinds things are the best so that learn.

PD: sorry if i have a mistake, but i need write better my English

  16. hm..
    like "incubus" most ;)
this grey design and at the end ;) the picture with that strong blue... great!
But its a bit hard to read the text....

really nice designs. all are a bit retro-style ;)

  17. Nice list.. i have an similar footer too in one of my blog :)
