If the image is empty, I want show a default image, such as /images/default.jpg.

Please teach me how to do it.

Not a noob, but wondering if someone could be more specific to this reply. This is exactly what I am looking for. Not all of my posts have images and I currently have broken links and a default image is unwanted. Most appreciated ahead of time.

Does this work with NextGen Gallery, too? That would be great if it just pulled the first image from the NextGen gallery for each post.

Thanks for sharing this tip/hack. I’m currently working on my first WP theme release and was looking for an easier solution that custom fields which are annoying individuals who don’t understand WP.
